About Sustainable Enterprise Project (SEP)

PKSF has been engaged in promoting eco-friendly business practices among microenterprises in Bangladesh through the implementation of the ‘Sustainable Enterprise Project (SEP)’ since 2018. This initiative is backed by the Government of Bangladesh and receives co-funding from PKSF and The World Bank (WB), with a total project budget of $130 million over 5 years. The financial contribution from WB amounts to $110 million, while PKSF provides $20 million.
To execute the project, key business groups in agribusiness and manufacturing are offered both financial aid and technical assistance to carry out committed activities. Currently, 64 sub-projects spanning 30 financial sub-sectors are in progress.
The overarching goal of the project is to promote the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices by targeted microenterprises. An approval of $89.50 million (approximately BDT 716 crore) in loans has been granted by PKSF management to 47 Partner Organizations (POs). Of this sum, $84.65 million had been disbursed to POs by June 2022.
The SEP Project Management Unit (PMU) along with implementing POs conducts training programs aimed at skill development and fostering awareness among officials and project participants. In the fiscal year 2021-22, a total of 45,486 micro-entrepreneurs (20,684 female, 24,802 male) were trained in areas encompassing technical skills, environmental consciousness, market linkages, business certification, and environmental clearance.
